His brainchild, the UK Chess Challenge, captivated young minds nationwide for over two decades.

Tragically, Mike passed away in 2022. Today, we gather to honor "Basmania," his unparalleled flair for injecting whimsy into chess theory and openings. His unconventional approach breathed fresh air into the often staid world of chess, inspiring creativity and laughter with every move.
